Hamish Cumming
Part II Architectural Assistant
BSc(Hons) Architecture
Hamish has returned to our team following the completion of his BSc(Hons) in Architecture at the University of Bath, graduating with First Class Honours. Having originally joined Matthew Clay Architects in spring 2024 on placement alongside his studies, he will continue his studies at Bath, undertaking his MArch (Hons) as he progresses towards qualification.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Hamish brings an international perspective to his work, alongside the experience and skills developed during his time with us and at Bath, as well as through his previous work at Sarah Morgan Architect Ltd. His final-year project, ‘Milk Made’, explored the potential of transforming dairy waste into milk fibre and its application within textile and architectural contexts. The resulting proposal for a Dairy Innovation & Regeneration Hub in Salisbury brought together production, research and public engagement, exploring how architecture can support material innovation, local industry and sustainable development.
Hamish will be working across a range of bespoke residential and hospitality projects, bringing his particular interest in materiality, craft and the relationship between architecture and its context to his work.
