Grandpont Nursery

Inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia Children Nurseries, this new purpose-built extension provides one of the most advanced Children's Centres of this kind and the best environment for the children’s learning experiences.

Oxford, 2008

Completed in 2008, the £700,000 extension to Grandpont Nursery School in Oxford was designed in collaboration with Professor Andrea Placidi and Oxford Brookes University’s Interior Architecture Department.

The new building includes two new playrooms and staff facilities plus a large meeting area for parents and children. The building is designed to maximise natural light and views of the Grandpont nature reserve, and is inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia Children Nurseries, where the children are allowed a complete control over their activities. The nursery is one of the most advanced Children's Centres of this kind.

Internal arrangements and carefully considered design solutions offer the best environment for the children’s learning experiences. The response from the local community was extremely enthusiastic.
