St Peters Church

A seamless refurbishment to a Victorian Grade II Listed Church

Wiltshire, 2019

St Peters Church in Kington Langley is a Victorian, Grade II-listed building that had a functional 'Green Room' that needed complete refurbishment.

Working with the Church's management committee, vicar and wardens we explored various options that would return the light to its wonderful interior. Functional aspects - disabled WC, storage and kitchenette - were carefully hidden behind a new screen that was set back a respectful distance from the existing font. In setting the screen back, a generous entrance space was created that affords a much better opportunity for congregations to mingle either pre- or post-service. It also allows a greatly-improved space for christenings and baptisms to take place in.

Victorian floor tiles were sourced from a far-flung Welsh reclamation yard through the tireless dedication of the church's team of volunteers; the result is a stunning - and seamless - extension to the previously-covered tiled floor.
