Wishing Well Cottage

Renovation and extension of a historic cottage, incorporating a new glazed well which forms a unique centrepiece to the home.

Marshfield, South Gloucestershire, 2009

An old cottage, set within the highly sensitive conservation area of Marshfield, was in desperate need of modernisation. This radical design has redefined the entrance, opened up the rear of the house allowing light to penetrate into the heart of the building and revitalised the living areas.

By glazing the hallway that links new build with existing house, a generous kitchen, dining and reception area has been created; a glazed, illuminated well forms a unique centrepiece for the hall which, with exposed oak beams, gives a stylish, warm welcome to the house.

The reconfiguration creates a strong visual connection between the front and back of the house, and allows the available space to be used more efficiently. This gives the cottage a spacious and contemporary atmosphere, as well as a generous amount of storage and living accommodation.
