Lower Barn
Matthew Clay Architects oversaw this careful conversion of a Grade II Listed Barn set within the Cotswolds.
Cotswolds, 2018

This Grade II-listed barn is situated in the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and needed a lot of TLC and careful planning to bring it back to life.
The barn had been partially converted in the 1980s which had created a set of uninspired spaces that had little or no reference to the building's past.
The entrance hallway was opened up to create a more impressive arrival point in the building, while the main barn area - previously a dark and cramped living space - was opened up to create a double height dining space.
An adjoining single storey barn was rejuvenated to create an open-plan kitchen and living area which, in turn, leads into a utility area and covered alfresco dining space.
We worked closely with Cotswold District Conservation to ensure that original features were carefully restored and exposed in the new scheme. The result is a wonderful celebration of the building's history, while enabling the owners to enjoy the benefits of contemporary living arrangements.
